Your smile is everything. Regardless of whether you’re a headline entertainer or an accountant in a small office, people will generally notice your smile before they notice anything else. If you have missing teeth, you may be sending people the wrong impression about you. People may assume that you are lacking in intelligence, have poor hygiene, or simply don’t care. These assumptions are, of course, unfair, but the stigma of missing teeth is very real in our society.
Dr. Ryan Knight and the rest of the team at Fort Worth Cosmetic & Family Dentistry take both the appearance and the health of your smile seriously. We know the difference a smile makeover – which could include a tooth replacement option like dental implants – can make in a person’s life.
What Causes Tooth Loss?
Tooth loss can occur for several reasons. In the U.S., the number one culprit behind missing teeth is periodontal disease. Other reasons that you might be missing teeth include damage caused by trauma (such as might occur in a car accident) or decay.
Whatever the reason that you have lost teeth, don’t despair. A smile makeover with dental implants can restore your smile.
Who Can Perform a Smile Makeover?
Smile makeovers are designed to completely restore and transform your smile. When you’re choosing a dentist for your smile makeover, you want to choose someone with experience and skill, who also has a good eye for smile aesthetics so that you can rest assured that your new smile will look natural and beautiful.
If your smile makeover is going to include dental implants, then you should also choose a dentist with experience in the placement and restoration of implants. Fort Worth cosmetic dentist Dr. Nikki Green not only has the skill and experience you are looking for but also constantly strives to increase her skill and knowledge to stay on top of the latest developments in dentistry. You can trust our team to give you a smile you’ll want to show off over and over again.
What’s Involved in a Smile Makeover?
Every smile makeover that we perform is different. Why? Because no two mouths are the same, and different people face different dental challenges. Some smile makeovers may require veneers and teeth whitening treatments while others need Invisalign and dental bonding.
If you have missing or broken teeth, we’ll look at a few different options for you to determine how to best meet your needs. Some of the tooth restoration and replacement options we may consider include:
- Dental implants
- Dental bonding
- Dentures or partials
We’ll begin by performing a thorough consultation with you to discuss your concerns and your goals. Whatever is on your mind, just let us know. No matter what the current condition of your mouth is, please don’t ever think that any request is too far-fetched. Dr. Knight will assess your oral health using both a visual inspection and digital imaging. This will also help us to see what’s going on inside your teeth and beneath your gums. It could be that a tooth you thought was perfectly fine has internal decay or damage to the root canal and other structures, and we can also assess the quality of your periodontal bone so that we can determine the best way to proceed.
Once we have a good understanding of what’s going on and what you hope to accomplish, we can begin to create your treatment plan. Our first goal will be to repair any areas of decay or disease and relieve any pain you are currently experiencing. Once your oral health is more stable and you are more comfortable, we can really start to focus on the cosmetics of your teeth and ways to improve their appearance.
If dental implants are going to be a part of your smile makeover, we’ll be paying particular attention to the quality and quantity of the bone beneath your gums since this will play a key factor in the success of your implants. Even if your bone quality isn’t currently where we’d like to see it, we can look into procedures like bone grafting to help.
What About the Cost?
We know that cost is always a concern for patients. You want to look and feel better, but bills and the mortgage can’t exactly be set aside.
As part of your consultation, we’ll review your insurance coverage to see how much of your smile makeover will be covered by insurance. Procedures that improve the health of your mouth and decrease pain are typically covered, although you will probably need to pay a copay. This includes procedures like fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, and – more and more often – dental implants. Additionally, if your teeth were damaged or lost because of an accident, you may be able to access other types of insurance – like your auto policy’s PIP coverage to cover these costs.
Some procedures that are purely cosmetic in nature, such as veneers and teeth whitening, will not be covered under your insurance even though they can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile… and your well-being. In this case, we can look at other options such as in-house financing and third-party financing options like CareCredit and Springstone Financial.
We believe that investing in your dental health is important – and not just because we are a dental practice! Your dental health is a mirror of the health of the rest of your body, and untreated dental problems are linked to other significant health problems, including diabetes and heart disease. In addition, an attractive smile improves your own sense of self-confidence and can greatly increase your quality of life. You deserve to look and feel good.
