dental crown

With a dental restoration we not only can repair cavities, but teeth that have become chipped or fractured as well. However, for many people the process can be inconvenient, as dental crowns typically require two to three visits to complete. Fortunately, the team at Ft. Worth Cosmetic and Family Dentistry can create and place a restoration in a single visit using CEREC technology. Can you really obtain a crown in one day?

Frequently Asked Questions About CEREC Crowns

Question: What is CEREC?

Answer: Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEREC, refers to a unique CAD/CAM system that allows our office to design, fabricate, and place a dental restoration in a single visit. Instead of biting down on a tray of sticky material for an impression, we take digital impressions in seconds with an intraoral camera. Patients will also no longer need to wear a temporary crown between preparation and placement.

Question: Why do I need a restoration?

Answer: We recommend this procedure for a number of reasons, including repairing teeth that have severe tooth decay, breaks, fractures, and worn down enamel. We also use them to complete a root canal procedure or top a dental implant, ensuring the new tooth looks natural and functions properly. If you notice any damage or experience persistent tooth sensitivity or toothaches then we can perform an examination to decide if you would benefit from a restoration.

Question: Will they look natural?

Answer: Yes. After repairing the teeth we use the intraoral camera to gather images. We then create a 3D model of the tooth, which is uploaded into the CEREC computer. The machine then mills them from a solid block of ceramic, a lifelike material that is strong and long lasting. Once placed, it will then blend seamlessly with your smile.

Question: How long do they last?

Answer: On average, they can be expected to last for decades. To help ensure this, you should take care of your smile with preventive care, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental cleanings.
